Competition for College Grants in this current recession are tougher then ever! The government and other non-profit organizations all across the United States are still giving out the same number, most likely fewer grants but the number of students applying for financial aid is at an all time high because of the global financial crisis.
Traditionally before college loans and grants many college students had jobs that paid for their college tuition. But with the downturn in the economy even this age old system is breaking down because many companies that gladly hired college students in the boom years are simply not hiring them now. So students have less money and this of course is putting more pressure on all grant giving institutions.
When you look at the figures today it clearly shows the the number of student who applied for The Free Application for Student Aid rose to 10.4% in 2008 from 1.4 Million in 2007. The great news is that The College Board has stated it will be increasing their Financial Aid to future college students up to $143 Billion Dollars. This is good but remember there will be more students vying for these grants so learning a grant getting tip here or there could put you ahead the the pack.
In the College Grant Game “Grade-Point Average” is the first key to success. You may have had poor grades in Grammer School or Middle School, but by the time you reach High School you need Good Grades To Get Good Grants! So your chances of Getting College Grants in This Recession depend on your grades in High School. This means that in High School if you are a Poor Student or Average Student strive to become an A-Student. Becoming an A-Student will not only make your parents and girlfriend or boyfriend happier, you would have giving yourself a much better chance of getting into those Top-Level Colleges along with the Grants and Scholarships that would finance it all!
Apply, Apply and Apply is the key to success in Getting College Grants In This Recession. Don’t think of just applying to State Colleges, follow your dreams and apply to your Dream Private Universities too! You never know if you will be accepted in one of them! Also having been accepted in many colleges is great but it gets better because you can now pick-out the one with the Best College Financial Aid. So get your applications in the mail tomorrow!
Now you may be thinking that expensive Ive League Colleges are not worth applying to? But the reality is that these Ive League Colleges are the ones that hand out some of the bigger grants today, so apply to them all. Merit Aid from private schools may also be your college financing answer, if for some reason you did not get the full financial aid that you wanted.
Lastly, to increase your chances of obtaining College Grants In This Recession remember don’t overlook all of your application documentation/paperwork. Most grant institutions will require 1) Your personal ID and 2) Proof of Registration in the the college where you will be attending.
One last tip, just because you are enrolled in a college at this time, don’t think your grant getting days are over. Your college studies will be four years and maybe more if you decide to go for a Masters or Doctorate.
