How often do we hear people that have careers complain about never doing the occupation they are trained to do? They did not realize when they get into into their chosen field, that there will be numerous aspects to the job.

The same premise applies with the video game artist. Before genuinely researching the subject various would-be artists think it is merely a matter of sitting down and designing a game and then putting it into production, and it’s ready to play. It doesn’t rather work that way. If it did, there would likely be even more games on the market than there already are. Video game artists have such a variety of jobs to do that many of these jobs have pretty much evolved into becoming specialties.

A great example of this is the concept artist. In some other words the idea maker. It’s his job to be creative and dream up the different characters and the types of atmosphere it will demand. Once it’s put to paper, its scanned into the comp, and it’s cleaned up utilising a software programme with these kinds of capabilities, like Photoshop for illustration. This is where the texture artist now meets his roll. It’s his job to produce the texture for the colours, then it moves onto the 3D model builder. So where did the role of the computer game artist end? Actually, it didn’t; the video game artist may have been doing any one, a few, or all of the duties as outlined.

To become a concept artist you require to just be yourself; you can’t genuinely take training to be one… mostly because it’s based on creativity. No one could teach you to be creative, but they could teach you to develop your natural creativity. This is normally done by practice and much more practice. The setting you’re going to place your characters in is nearly as important as the characters themselves. You’re setting the atmosphere, which in turn sets the theme.

You may decide that you desire to specialize in 2D or 3D animation, which is tremendous. It implies you’re going to have to determine the levels of the different games and edit them as necessary. You might even have the responsibility of that of the texturing artist.

Now the 2D texturing artist has the job of texturing all of the elements found within the game as it pertains to the 3D objects. This can be greatly perfected and enhanced by the use of good quality software designed precisely for this.
