The query put to online business people is Which is Better For Traffic, a Static Website Or a Blog? All online marketers want traffic. If you had a storefront business you would want people coming in and out seeing what you were selling. The same with your online business. A blog is a blog and a website is a website, two different animals.
A blog is short for web log. I also like to think of a blog as a personal newsletter. Before the internet some of my friends used to send out newsletters via snail mail. They would send them out once or twice a year and announce what was happening with them and their families. Now people use blogs for the same purpose.
People now write about what is going on in their lives and people can visit their blog online and read about are going on in their lives. But also people can promote their websites with their blogs. Let us say you have an online business promoting and selling fish aquariums and accessories.
You can have a blog where you can have weekly or even daily information about fish aquariums, tropical fish, salt water fish, and accessories. You can build an email list of subscribers who will visit your website because you sent them an email message letting them know you have written an article on a particular tropical fish or new aquarium filter or new fish food. They will go to your blog and read the article. In your article you will have a link to your website where you will actually have products for sale.
There you can sell products related to your articles, or better write articles related to what you are selling on your website. So the question is not which is better for traffic a blog or website. The question is how you use both in order to build your online business. Some people like reading blogs because it has a more personal feel compared to a website.
Websites are where people buy. So you want to get them there eventually. Blogs are where people do not feel pressured to buy, but you want to use them to ease people over to your website where they can buy if they want to. If on your blog you have given them content they cannot get anywhere else you are building credibility and loyalty.
Personally I like blogs because I do not feel pressured to buy something. But if I like what the blogger is writing and he or she is offering me good information I will visit their website and I might buy from them. And if someone uses one to support the other I see this as a good marketing technique and impressed with their business aptitude.
Others however want to go to a website to see what is for sale. If the website looks good and they find good products for good prices they might buy from there as well. Which is Better For Traffic, a Static Website Or a Blog? The best is to use both way to build traffic to your online business. Use your blog to support your website where you will be doing your selling.
