Looking At Freelancing From Both Sides
Whether you are a freelancer, or a company looking to hire a freelance agent, it is beneficial to look at
both sides of the spectrum to ensure that each of you is not only getting "the best deal," but that all systems
are in place so that your business association is good for the long haul. Many freelance positions are either
long-term, or will fill immediate needs for shorter periods, but will be needed on an ongoing basis.
If you are an employer, your mission really does need to be to find the best possible freelance worker,
while still watching your bottom line, and hire one at the best possible price. Don't just hire a freelancer
because she offers you a lower quote than the others you connect with. You are hiring a freelancer to get
skills you need but don't have. But this is not the place to skimp within your budget. The very core of your
business is at stake. What this means for the freelancer is that you don't need to purposefully lower your
price when you KNOW your worth. The two of you in ideal conditions will have the experience, ethics, and
respect that will finalize in a comfortable, fair contract.
The fresh, clean creativity that a freelancer provides can invigorate and refresh a company. Hiring a freelancer
is the simplest (and least costly) method to bring a gifted, experienced team player into your business. And,
although costs are less for the employer, in terms of overhead, equipment, and other typical fulltime hire
positions... the benefits and better pay to the freelancer is exactly why they freelance in the first place.
The freelance agent retains the actuality of "their own business," including choosing time and working terms
(as in, working from home). And the employer, most times, has added an extremely valuable person to their
assets as a company.
